This artwork addresses the ways in which we precieve jewellery. It references a heavy gold necklace owned by the artist’s mother given to her by her paternal great grandfather. Because of its value and weight, it was only worn on certain occassions, thus the necklce spends most of its life in the safe or closet. But what happens to a necklace if its not worn? What makes a necklace a necklace? What if the necklace was not connected and instead references to a necklace? A re-representation of a necklace. By using light and shadow to form the image of a necklace, the artwork brings into questions the notions of immateriality and perception.
